Hi, I'm Dr. Ceilon Aspensen.

I'm an artist, art teacher, writer, and the founder of Happy Art Teachers.

For more than 20 years, I've taught art to students ranging from PreK through graduate school. I've worked in elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, universities, and community programs, and I've learned that no matter where we teach, art teachers often face the same challenges: too much to do, not enough time to do it, and a constant pressure to somehow make everything work.

Like many art teachers, I've spent years bringing work home, sacrificing evenings and weekends, scrambling to prepare lessons, and feeling overwhelmed by the endless demands of the job. After one of the most difficult years of my teaching career, I realized something had to change. I didn't need more ideas. I needed better systems.

That realization became the foundation for Happy Art Teachers and The Art Teacher Advantage.

My mission is simple: to help art teachers reclaim their time, reduce stress, and build art programs that are organized, sustainable, and enjoyable to teach. Through practical strategies, proven systems, ready-to-use resources, and a supportive community, I help teachers spend less time overwhelmed and more time doing what they love—teaching art and inspiring students.

I hold a Ph.D. in American Studies, am a certified PreK–12 art educator, have taught every grade from PreK through graduate school, and currently teach elementary and middle school art in Maryland. Throughout my career, I've taught thousands of students, mentored fellow educators, developed curriculum, and helped teachers create art rooms that run more smoothly and effectively.

When I'm not teaching or creating resources for art teachers, you'll usually find me making art, spending time with my family, exploring Maryland's beautiful waterways, or dreaming up new ways to help art teachers thrive.

Because great art teachers deserve to have great lives, too.
